Social Networks

There are so many social opportunities in the wider world, it can be overwhelming knowing where to start.

Here are some ways Mavar is helping:

We’ve set up an ‘Under 35s Network’ to provide 1 to 1 social mentoring and befriending for Mavar members who are feeling isolated or lonely. The U35 also run fortnightly online socials where you can chat openly or anonymously (using the video off option). They’re a great way to connect with other Mavar members in a similar situation as your own.  The socials include current affairs debates and ‘themed’ chats around subjects of everyone’s choice.

We also mail a weekly ‘Culture Catch-Up’ newsletter for members with links to recommended books, films and music, to help you ‘catch-up’ with some classic entertainment and cultural gems.

Mavar’s GENERAL RESOURCE pack, available to members, includes website links to help you find regular activities of interest.  For instance, you might want to join an exercise class, sing in a choir, go to a football match, join a Friday night dinner with other young adults, check out an art exhibition or watch a film? The choices are endless.

If you’d like a copy, contact Alex 020 8144 5074.  We can also link you up with someone from the Under 35s Network if you’d rather not go to an event alone.

Many members want to meet new people, Jewish or not.  The ‘Social Signposting’ section of the pack lists:

  • events where you can meet people
  • apps for making new friends
  • websites of interesting social venues in London and Manchester
  • information about volunteering, which is a great way to meet new people whilst giving something back at the same time

Here’s an example of websites in our pack where you can meet new people:

Go Mammoth: Directory of sports teams who take individual joiners

Obby: Directory of craft classes:

Good Gym: Exercise and volunteering:

Meet Up: Meet up groups searchable by area and interest, which has an enormous variety of groups.
