After seven exhilarating, heart-warming years as CEO of MAVAR, the time has come for me to step down.
What a journey! Founding the charity, establishing its ethos and providing comprehensive support to over 100 men and women who have sought our assistance has truly been a privilege.
I will of course miss our wonderful team of volunteers who offer support with real dedication, warmth and professionalism, but I’ll especially miss the young people we serve who, despite their daily struggles, show such determination, self-belief, resilience and creativity – albeit not every day!. I stand in awe of them all.
My warmest thanks and gratitude to those of you who have been part of MAVAR’s journey thus far, and hopefully into the future.
SO…… I’m excited to announce that MAVAR’S new Director is: Amos Schonfield. I have known Amos for some years and believe he is an inspired choice and know that he will serve MAVAR with great gusto and commitment.
Amos is the founder and director of Our Second Home, a youth movement for refugees and asylum seekers. He joins MAVAR from Student Action for Refugees, having previously worked at Yachad and Noam Masorti Youth, where he was national director. He has a Masters in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford, where he studied Jewish diaspora and trans-nationalism with a focus on the Satmar ultra-orthodox community. Amos regularly volunteers across the wider Jewish community and recently appeared in the Jewish News ’40 Under 40′ list.
Amos writes: “I am really pleased to join Mavar, and to take over from a visionary founder like Linda. I have always been inspired by the work Mavar does – particularly crucial during the current time. I am excited to work with Mavar’s board, mentors and volunteers to continue providing a supportive space and the freedom to choose”
My warmest wishes to Amos and the team for continued growth and success.
