Mavar seeks qualified, experienced counsellors to join its small volunteer team.
Mavar is a charity that seeks to empower individuals who choose to explore opportunities beyond the Charedi world to fulfil personal goals. We provide a toolkit to enable the user to achieve independence and minimise the obstacles they may encounter as they explore options to live, work or study in the wider world. Mentors provide 1-to-1 support to our members, who empower them to achieve their goals, provide an empathetic ear, and signpost to counselling, grant-giving, tutoring, social networking, educational guidance, and other specialist services.
Our counselling team volunteers its time to offer therapeutic support to people currently or formerly part of the Charedi community, who have psychological and emotional issues that they wish to explore. The frequency of this counselling is by arrangement between counsellor and client, following an initial assessment by the counselling team.
Counsellors would meet clients in a location convenient to both, Mavar is not able to offer counselling rooms. The counselling will be offered either remotely or face to face, by agreement.
Mavar counsellors usually work with one or two clients at a time, or more clients if agreed.
In addition to their own supervision, Mavar offers quarterly peer supervision to all its counsellors.
We require that all counsellors are currently registered as members of BACP, UKCP, HCPC, or an equivalent accredited course, and they should be qualified to diploma level or higher.
As Mavar is a charity used by members for whom financial constraints are often significant, counselling is offered either voluntarily or at a low charitable rate.
