When someone leaves the Charedi community, or decides to increase their secular knowledge, it is often in the face of opposition from the original community. This is the case for men and women, but also for the children they might bring with them.

Today, Mavar is celebrating the BTec Exam success of the child of one of our members – a triple grade distinction!
This was achieved despite a move for the child and siblings out of the Charedi community, with many obstacles in their way.
Mum and siblings have been supported by Mavar every step, and this has included mentoring support, which has been key to the achievement. Our mentor supported Mum, who in turn was able to support the siblings, including the child who achieved this outstanding result.
Mavar offers members free of charge pastoral, education, social events, and counselling support, and partners with colleagues in employment, voluntary work, housing, health and social care, and legal support.
Mavar’s ethos is very much a “village” approach to gaining and maintaining independence and choice over your life.
I am hugely grateful to Mavar’s dedicated staff and mentor support teams, who have delivered the long-term support to enable this great result. But most of all, to the child and Mum who worked so hard and with belief that this was possible. Mazal tov!
